Personal cyber and identity theft protection: what to compare

Products with similar names can do different things. Compare the event, the service and the expense involved rather than assuming that every online loss falls within a single category.

Separate assistance from reimbursement

Identity recovery assistance may help with the work of restoring an identity. Insurance wording addresses defined events, expenses or losses. Monitoring is another service. The NAIC's consumer guidance explains identity recovery costs; it is not a promise that a product reimburses stolen money.

Ask for the actual service description and policy wording. A marketing label such as identity protection or personal cyber does not settle these questions.

Use a comparison checklist

Start with what you already have

Ask the professional who handles your existing policies whether any relevant endorsement or service is already included. Separately check any protection provided by your financial institution or another service. Do not cancel or replace existing protection based on a general online guide.

Explain the concern in ordinary language: a scam transfer, someone opening an account in your name, a hacked account or impersonation. Different facts may require different reviews.

Keep the first conversation private and simple

A first LunarQuote profile needs high-level concerns and contact/location information. It does not need Social Security numbers, passwords, bank details or private documents. Sharing with participating specialists is optional, and a connection is subject to verified availability.

LunarQuote does not currently sell a Lunar-branded personal insurance policy. A licensed professional is responsible for advice, available products, applications and quotes.

Primary sources

Sources provide general context. The checklists and examples are LunarQuote educational material. An insurer reference does not imply a LunarQuote partnership, appointment or endorsement.
